Kalouteh Dates

Description:

Kalooteh Dates, scientifically known as Phoenix dactylifera cv. Kalooteh belongs to the Palmaceae family. The palm tree that bears these dates is of the tall palm species and requires approximately 7 years from planting to become economically productive.

Kalooteh Dates, also known as Kaliteh, are among the soft or semi-dry date varieties in Iran and are considered important commercial cultivars. This type of date has soft flesh. The fruit is red in the Kharak stage and turns light and dark brown during the Tamr stage. Kalooteh Dates are relatively large, with a hard pit that is not highly adherent to the flesh. The flesh-to-pit ratio is approximately 90%. Its perianth is typically separated from the pit. While Kalooteh Dates bear a strong resemblance to Mazafati dates in appearance, their lower moisture content, firmer texture, and superior taste set them apart. This variety falls into the category of mid-ripening dates in Iran. Due to their semi-soft nature, it is recommended to store Kalooteh Dates at cool temperatures after harvest. The ideal storage temperature is below 5 degrees Celsius.

Today, with the development of societies and the increase in working hours during the day, many people seek nutritious and healthy snacks. It’s interesting to note that Kalooteh Dates, like other date varieties, serve as a highly nourishing snack to provide energy for daily activities. Kalooteh Dates are a valuable source of natural and balanced energy due to their large size, soft and fleshy texture, delightful syrup, high fiber content, natural sugars, rich mineral content, and essential vitamins. Approximately 40 grams of these dates (around 4-5 pieces) provide 120 kilocalories of energy, ensuring that consumers receive their daily energy and vitamin requirements from a healthy and natural source. Nutrition experts believe that incorporating such healthy nutrition into one’s daily diet can contribute to long-term health and vitality.

Kalooteh Dates can be used for snacking, desserts, smoothies, salads, and energy bars. They make natural sweeteners for baking and beverages, and they are also used in the food industry for products like confectionery. Their rich flavor and soft texture make them a versatile ingredient in sweet and savory dishes, offering a healthier alternative to refined sugars.

Kalooteh or Kalooteh Dates are one of the most common and widely cultivated date varieties in Iran. They are grown in many date-producing regions of Iran. The finest Kalooteh Dates in Iran are notably cultivated in Kerman province, particularly in the cities of Jiroft and Anbarabad, where they exhibit exceptionally high quality. The delicious and appealing taste of these dates, along with their natural and healthy qualities, has earned them popularity both domestically and internationally. Kalooteh Dates are highly favored in European countries, Central Asia countries, and the Persian Gulf states. The harvesting season for these dates in these regions typically falls in late August to late September.
